Letter to the times from "an inhabitant" - St Leonard's School in a pub

On This Day 16th January 1837 "An Inhabitant' wrote to the Times.

There was concern as to the suitability of St Leonard's School operating in a room at the rear of the White Lion and that the accommodation was very cramped and the young scholars (poor of the town) had to pass through the pub yard to get to the school room, walking through the horse dung and puddles of dirty water as well as having to listen to the bad language of the coachmen. stable-boys and those frequenting the pub
