Walter Crane died On This Day 14th March 1915

Walter Crane (15 August 1845 – 14 March 1915) was an English artist and book illustrator.
The Widow of Nain ("Weep Not"), in Christchurch Streatham Designed by Walter Crane and installed in 1891 as the first window in the north aisle. The church had pioneered the use of polychromy in the early 1840s, and had attracted a good deal of attention for that at the time. This is one of two wonderfully distinctive and expressive windows in the aisle designed by Crane, both in memory of the Reverend Woodstock Raven, the first vicar of the church, from 1841-1887. A photograph of about 1897 titled ‘Walter Crane as Cimabue’. The artist and illustrator enjoyed a bohemian life at 13 Holland Street, and seems to have been fond of fancy dress – he also reportedly dressed up as a crane for his son’s 21st birthday party© National Portrait Gallery, London
