The area covered by this Heritage Trail saw some of Streatham's first suburban developments. These took place in the second half of the nineteenth century when many large houses and their estates were swept aside for new roads and homes. By this time Streatham was well served by the railway and was a desirable place to live. Each estate had its own style giving Streatham a rich and varied architectural heritage.
From small early cottages along Sunnyhill and Wellfield Roads which predate the housing boom, through the grander houses of the Coventry Park Estate we also pass several post 1945 housing developments built on cleared bomb sites.
This guide is a companion to Streatham Heights, Footpaths and Woods which explores this area further.
