Pullman Court, Streatham Hill

Sunday 11th and Sunday 18th October, 10.30am.

This event is part of the Streatham Festival www.streathamfestival.com

A walk along Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill looking at its inter war architecture, from Art Deco to International Modern. This walk is led by Streatham Society trustee Robert Doyle. Robert will be discussing how Streatham came to have a greater variety of 1930's luxury flats and entertainment buildings than anywhere else south of the River Thames.

This 90 minute linear walk along the high road meets outside the Manor Arms pub. It takes in such architectural gems as  the former Burton's building with its elaborate 'jazz modern' facade, Frederick Gibberd's stunning Pullman Court and the huge Streatham Hill Theatre which was once a venue for large production companies.

We will also be aiming to visit the courtyards of some of the apartment blocks which include many features that are not normally seen. However photography is not permitted within as these are private residences, and access is also at the owners discretion.

Booking is essential. Discounted tickets available for Streatham Society members - see Society email for code.
