Eric Stanley Taylor MBE was born on this day 26th October 1924, known professionally as Shaw Taylor, he was a RADA trained actor and television presenter, best known for presenting the long-running five-minute crime programme Police 5.
Shaw Taylor was a long time resident at 75 "The High" in Streatham and was often seen walking his Pekinese dogs along Streatham High Road On This Day 26 October 1998 Nicholas Budgen MP died. He was born in Streatham and lived at 50 Palace Road
A barrister and politician, the son of George Nicholas Budgen (d. 1942), businessman, and his wife, Mary Helen, née Bather. He was baptized into the Church of England by the grandfather of Enoch Powell, a politician who much later significantly influenced his life. His father, a captain in the army, was killed at Tobruk. In 1974, when the Conservative MP Enoch Powell left the party and resigned from his seat over their policy on the EEC, only six weeks before the 1974 general election, Budgen was selected to stand for the Conservatives in Powell's old seat: Wolverhampton South West. Maurice Burton was the first black British champion in cycling. His first taste of success came when he won the Junior Sprint national title in 1973. He won the amateur scratch title the following year, raced over a 20 km distance although he was booed as he crossed the line. He went on to represent Britain at the 1974 Commonwealth Games He rode 56 professional Six Day events, and retired from competitive cycling after a serious racing accident at the Buenos Aires Six Day in 1984. In 1987, he took over De Ver Cycles, a thriving bike shop in Streatham. Frank Albert Collins was born On This Day 24th October 1908. he and his family lived at 22 Nimrod Road Streatham.

She was the daughter of Charles Derry a resident of "Woodlands" in Streatham Park, a draper and co-founder of the Department store Derry and Toms in Kensington The Streatham United Reformed Church was designed by architect James Cubitt FRIBA. It was funded largely by two donors, Charles Derry and Frank Bentall, both department store retailers who lived in Streatham The adjacent site to the church has been named... Derry Court, 386 Streatham High Road, London, SW16 The Mitcham Lane Baptist Church desiged by George and RP Baines is a grade II Listed buildiing.
