He lived locally in Sistova Road, Balham

Robert Bartlett, CBE, FBA, FRSE is an English historian and medievalist. Wardlaw Professor of Mediaeval History at the University of St Andrews. After attending Battersea Grammar School in Streatham (1962 to 1969), he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge, St John's College, Oxford and Princeton University as a Jane Eliza Procter Visiting Fellow In 2010, he wrote and presented The Normans on the BBC, a documentary series about their wide-ranging impact on Britain, countries of the Mediterranean and as far afield as the Holy Land. In 2014, he presented the BBC documentary series The Plantagenets, about the eponymous royal dynasty. On This Day 26th November 1969 Thomas Reginald Cave-Browne-Cave died

Professor Trevor William Robbins FRS was born On This Day 26th November 1949. He attended Battersea Grammar in Abbotswood Road and Jesus College Cambridge
Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience and Head of the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge. Fellow of the British Psychological Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Royal Society. He has published over 600 peer-reviewed papers and 70 chapters in scientific journals and has co-edited 6 books. Robbins a keen chess player, represented both England Juniors in 1967 and the University of Cambridge as an undergraduate. He was once ranked in the top twenty players in England. His 1970 Varsity match was featured on 1 March 2015 in the Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/chess-fbj3673pzk0 The 150th anniversary book by Martin Smith of the Streatham and Brixton Chess Club covers Trevor Robbins and other players from BGS The first Streatham club was formed in 1871 and the first recorded game was On This Day 25 November 1871. In 1964, the Club changed its name from Streatham RFC to Streatham - Croydon RFC with a view to strengthening its links with the developing borough of Croydon. Prop Jeff Probyn played for Streatham - Croydon for nearly four seasons at the end of the 1970's before representing England for the first time six years later at the age of 31 while a member of Wasps. A distinguised captain of the club was Dudley Wood (1957-58), (1964-65), an Oxford blue 3 times over, who later became secretary of the RFU for many years |
