Richard Thornton West was a resident of "Langdon" at 45 Streatham Hill. The son of Richard Thornton William Ogle West and Margaret Thornton of the wealthy Thornton family of Clapham. Richard Thornton West was an East India merchant who married Sarah Bowerman in 1864. They moved to Devon where they bought a large estate two and a half miles from Exeter and Streatham Hall was built. Today Streatham Hall is called Reed Hall and stands on the University's extensive Streatham campus A Registered Botanic Garden, Streatham Campus is described by The Times as the ‘best-gardened campus in Britain’ and by The Independent as having a ‘sublime’ setting. Fred Fowle, a fairground artist at R J Larkin at Eardley Road/Besley Street Streatham died On This Day 29th November 1983. He lived locally in Sistova Road, Balham.

Robert Bartlett, CBE, FBA, FRSE is an English historian and medievalist. Wardlaw Professor of Mediaeval History at the University of St Andrews. After attending Battersea Grammar School in Streatham (1962 to 1969), he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge, St John's College, Oxford and Princeton University as a Jane Eliza Procter Visiting Fellow In 2010, he wrote and presented The Normans on the BBC, a documentary series about their wide-ranging impact on Britain, countries of the Mediterranean and as far afield as the Holy Land. Frederick Henry Johnson VC (15 August 1890 – 26 November 1917) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross and one of 8 VC holders connected to Streatham Johnson's father ran a confectionery shop at 13 Bedford Row (now 157), known these days as the "dip" on the site of the Mediterranean Bakery in recent years He achieved the rank of Major and was killed in action whilst commanding 231st Field Coy. Royal Engineers in Bourlon Wood, France, on 26 November 1917 and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial to the Missing For most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in the attack on Hill 70 on 25 September 1915. Second Lieutenant Johnson was with a section of his company of the Royal Engineers. Although wounded in the leg, he stuck to his duty throughout the attack, led several charges on the German redoubt, and at a very critical time, under very heavy fire, repeatedly rallied the men who were near him. By his splendid example and cool courage he was mainly instrumental in saving the situation and in establishing firmly his part of the position which had been taken.
