The son of Thomas Gabriel of Brixton the family were timber merchants with Gabriel's Wharf on the South Bank of the Thames.
He lived at Norfolk House, a 13 bedroom mansion on a 15 acre site situated in the vicinity of Norfolk House Road and Mount Ephraim Road. He died aged 75 leaving an estate of £200k
