Cynthia Cooke, died aged 96, nursed newly released PoWs and later became Matron-in-Chief of the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Naval Nursing Service.
She was educated at Stockwell County Secondary School which in 1913 had moved to Welham Road in Streatham. It was renamed the County Secondary School, Streatham (often referred to as Streatham County Secondary School or Streatham Secondary School.)
It was again renamed in 1951, after the first headmistress, Rosa Bassett and now forms part of Graveney School.
