Flight Lieutenant [Pilot) Douglas James How, 37806, holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross, serving with the Royal Air Force, 61 Squadron, died On This Day 13 September 1940 and is buried in Plot 13, Row A, Grave B in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

He was born in Streatham in 1912. The second son of Mr and Mrs A.B. How, 109 Thurlow Park-road, West Dulwich, he lived in Heybridge Avenue, Streatham, for the first ten years of his life, and then the family moved, in order to be nearer Alleyn's School, Dulwich, where he received his education.

Flying Officer How joined the R.A.F. as a pupil pilot in 1936, and gained a Short Service Commission in the same year. He became a Flying Officer in 1938, and was transferred to the Reserve of Air Force Officers for service with the R.A.F. this year.

His elder brother, who was in the Volunteer Reserve, obtained a commission and is now an observer with the R.A.F. in Egypt, and his younger brother is manning a searchlight "somewhere in England."
