John Malcolm Rae (1931–2006), headmaster and author, was born at 2 Rutford Road, Streatham, the son of (Lawrence) John Rae, radiologist, and his wife, (Annie) Blodwen, née Williams.
Master at Harrow School and Headmaster at Taunton School and Westminster School. During his time at Westminster he became a prominent voice on educational questions in the British media.
Professor John Rae was the Gresham Professor of Rhetoric between 1988 and 1990. He was educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge and the Department of War Studies, King's College London.
