Kate Carney

On This Day 1 January 1950 Music Hall entertainer Kate Carney died . She is recorded at Boylands Oak (Site of Christchurch House) and Aldrington Road in the Furzedown area of Streatham.She is buried at Putney Vale Cemetery

Kate's grand daughter is Streatham Society Chair and Streatham resident Shea Richardson.

The following is from find a grave:
English singer and comedienne who played the music halls in London. She was born Catherine M. Pattinson in Southwark, London. She first appeared as Kate Carney at the Albert Music Hall in Canning Town, singing Irish songs. She was, however, more famous for her Cockney songs, and became known as the Coster Comedienne. She married George Barclay (b.1868 Lambeth), a commission agent. She appeared in the Royal Variety Performance in 1935, and, following the death of her husband, became the lessee of the Grand Theatre, Clapham Junction in her own right. She continued to perform until just before she died in 1950, at the age of 80.

She died in a Streatham nursing home 1 January 1950 (The Times, 5 January 1950) Funeral was on the 6 January at 12:30. Her husband's real name was George Shea but he used the name Barclay.
