Lieutenant George Theodore Caesar of 112 Leigham Court Road
George was born On This Day May 11th 1897, the son of stockbroker James Caesar and his wife Marguerite. The family was strongly linked to the College, as not only did both George and his elder brother Julius attend Dulwich, but their father James had himself been one of three Caesar brothers to attend. In his final year George was a member of the 3rd XV, and after leaving Dulwich progressed to Sandhurst, where he underwent intensive officer training.
In December of 1915 he was awarded his commission with the East Surreys, with whom he went on to serve on the Somme, where he was badly wounded. After taking a period of convalescence, and whilst still back in England, he was attached to the Tank Corps, with whom he returned to the front in late 1917. He was commanding a tank near Amiens on May 2nd 1918 when, realizing that one of his men was missing, left the tank in order to look for him, and was unfortunately mortally wounded.
