I remember Pauline Collins used to visit St Andrew's RC School with her husband, John Alderton, to see our school plays. This was during the early 1970s when they were both very famous - Pauline for 'Upstairs Downstairs' and John for 'Please Sir!'. It was so kind of them to give up their evenings to support us in the cast, the school, and Pauline's father. They used to come back stage to give us their best wishes by telling us all to "Break a leg", which totally confused the very young me!
