On This Day 12 March 1756, The Streatham Vestry ordered, a pair of stocks to be made forthwith to punish all offence to the laws of this land, it was erected on the Village Common- Tooting Bec Common.

In December 1756 application was made to the Duke of Bedford for a piece of ground on the waste (Tooting Bec Common) to build a cage for the confinement of loose and disorders persons
