On This Day 17 December 1903 Ray Nobel was born

Raymond Stanley Nobel, bandleader and composer. He was born on 17 December 1903 at 1 Montpelier Terrace, Brighton.

The son of Frank Stanley Noble, a London neurologist, and his wife, Maude Edith Poole.
He began to play the piano when he was ten, and subsequently studied with Brigain Dale at the Royal Academy of Music for five years, becoming an accomplished player at the age of fifteen and an LRAM at sixteen.

Noble already had his sights set on a career in the dance-band world, but for a while worked in a bank at Streatham and led a local band. Noble settled in Streatham- recorded at 7 Streatham High Road with his wife Gladys- and embarked on a brilliant career of composing and arranging.

Hello, I am currently writing Ray Noble's biography and am very interested in your information that Ray studied music with Benjamin Dale (his first name is Benjamin) at the Royal Academy of Music. I have contacted the Academy and they have no records of Ray studying there, and said but if he was a private pupil of Mr. Dale's they would have no record of that.

Ray Noble left Dulwich College, in 1921, aged 18, so he would have had to have started studying with Mr. Dale after leaving there.

I would be very grateful if you could let me know where the source for his studies with Mr. Dale can be found.

Kind Regards,
Kari M John.

Hello Mark, Thank you for a speedy reply. Is Peter an historian? I would indeed be glad for some assistance. I read that Ray Noble worked as a bank clerk in Streatham for a short time whilst he was working on his music career (presumably of an evening). Would you know which bank it was please and the date he worked there?
Many thanks.
