He was the headmaster of "Royal Asylum of St Annes Society" in Streatham.
The Royal Asylum of St Anne's was founded in the Parish of St. Anne's and St Agnes in Aldersgate, London, in 1702 andit transferred to Streatham and due to overcrowding relocated again, this time to Redhill where Baines Hawkins was the first headmaster on the site
