Green was elected president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Ireland for 1885–6. He maintained a great interest in hymns, contributing a paper, 'Hymnody in our churches', to the Baptist Union meeting in 1895. For the Manchester manufacturer John Rylands (1801–1888) he printed for private circulation an anthology, Hymns of the Church Universal (1885), and he was chairman of the editorial committee of the Baptist Hymnal.
He lived at 3 Telford Avenue and "Northcourt" Mount Ephraim Road where he died in 1905
