Anthony George, 26, of Fontaine Road, Streatham, who was said to have not observed the two minutes’ silence on Friday, was fined 20s at Guildhall magistrates court yesterday for insulting behaviour.
He said: “There was no political motive. I objected to the commercialism of the King’s funeral. That is why I did not observe the silence. I did not realise it would infuriate people.”
PC Eric Rolfe said that George walked up Fleet Street and made unnecessary noise with his feet. The crowd got angry.
