On This Day 16 June 1892 Lupino Lane was born in Hackney. Part of the theatrical Lane family some of whom lived in Streatham. Lupino Lane died 10 November 1959 and is buried at Streatham Park Cemetery

The Lambeth Walk was a song in Me and My Girl, Launched by Lupino Lane at the Victoria Palace Theatre in Christmas 1937.

Miss England Chief of the dancing staff at the Locarno, Streatham, turned the song into a dance- it evolved the stamps with knee slapping and shouts of "Oi"
