Daphne Constance Allen, the daughter of Hugh Allen a painter and Catherine Selina Allen, the family lived at The Oaks, 40 Glenegale Road
An English artist who achieved recognition at an early age as a painter and illustrator. Throughout her career she painted religious subjects and landscapes.
Her father was the painter Hugh Allen who was a close friend of John Ruskin and in fact died after catching a chill on his way home from Ruskin's house, "Brantwood" on Lake Conniston. Her grandfather was Ruskin's publisher
